The Frasassi Grottoes
Considered some of the finest and most fascinating in Europe, the Frasassi Grottoes are an amazing, surreal underground landscape that dates back to nature's earliest days. Located in the Parco Naturale Regionale della Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi, they are underground karst grottoes rich with stalagmites and stalactites which have the appearance of architecture made by nature, including spires, pinnacles, underground lakes, and sculptures created by the endless workings of water on rock that have gone on for millions of years. The Frasassi Grottoes are found in the Marches in the municipality of Genga (Ancona), less than an hour's drive from Coldimolino: they are easily accessible and open throughout the year except for on national holidays. Tickets and tours can be booked in advance, choosing from various itinerary options, at www.frasassi.com.
